The relevance of the past in an uncertain present and an ever changing future

As I conversed with a long-term friend about certain aspects of my past, I came to realise how much time is wasted in the present glorifying, celebrating and ratifying the past.  This time in the present could however be used to make new memories that will be of new value tomorrow. Usually the discomfort of an unknown future and the discontentment of the present drive us in a path back to the past. Where everything is familiar, and we therefore think, everything was better and more ok than it could ever be. This then becomes our source to glorify the past. We should however, not dwell but embrace the past for its many lessons and wisdom shed upon us, as it has empowered us to be where we are today, preparing for a better, prosperous and happier tomorrow.
